December 4th is the day of the Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos into the Temple, celebrated in the calendar of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The holiday is one of the twelve main church holidays, not counting Easter.
Traditions of the holiday
From the onset of December 4th until the Annunciation, it was customary to leave the earth alone.
Believers stopped excavation work, allowing the land to rest until the sowing season.
No less attention was paid to this day, trying to predict what the weather would be like.
It was believed that today one could find out what the coming winter and summer of the next year would be like.
Weather signs
Frost on December 4 predicts a cold and snowy winter. Frosts were expected in the coming days, but there is another sign on this matter.
If today is frosty, then next summer will be very hot.
If the snow that fell before the Entry into the Temple does not melt after the holiday, it means a good grain harvest.
Cloudy and warm weather promises a poor harvest.
Clear weather today promises fine days for the next few days.
You can also listen to the ringing of church bells. A loud and distant ringing means frost.
And if the bells sound dull, then it will snow soon.
