In Belarus, the profession of a cook was, is and will probably remain one of the most in-demand for a long time.
The fact that these specialists are particularly valued by employers today is also evidenced by the number of vacancies for the latter.
The State Employment Service database alone contains more than 2,360 job postings for cooks.
Some of them have the minimum possible salary of 626 rubles, but there are also those with salaries of 3,000 – 4,000 rubles.
Basically, these days these catering employees are hired for salaries in the region of 1,000 - 1,600 rubles.
We will discuss the earnings of Belarusian chefs in more detail below, but for now let’s focus on the specifics and conditions of their work.
Where do they work?
Chefs work in almost all catering establishments, for example, in restaurants, cafes, canteens, etc.
They are also actively involved in medical institutions, schools, kindergartens, industrial enterprises, commercial organizations, agriculture, etc.
The quality of their work is assessed by a good review and “hard cash” (in cafes, restaurants) from the client.
By the way, many catering establishments attract new customers and “retain” regulars with signature dishes from the chef, which is considered a kind of brand of the establishment, its main “feature”.
Therefore, in this regard, the cook bears, one might say, an increased responsibility.
Specificity
The specifics of a chef's work are primarily determined by the recipes for preparing dishes.
However, not all professionals follow the given templates: they show individualism and creativity, a creative approach to work, add something of their own and, as a result, an original dish is obtained.
And if a new recipe “takes off” and starts bringing additional income to the establishment, it is kept secret, and the chef is encouraged to new achievements, including through bonuses, allowances, incentives, etc.
By the way, a chef must understand not only recipes, but also all food products, the raw materials (ingredients) for preparing the dishes with which he works.
Another specific feature is that the chef often works with different cuisines at the same time, for example, Eastern, Mexican, Chinese, Belarusian, vegetarian, etc.
Or maybe a chef focuses his efforts on one thing, which becomes the signature “mark of distinction” of his establishment.
It could be, say, a Turkish, Italian, Japanese, Russian or some other restaurant.
Terms and Conditions
As a rule, cooks work in a room specially designated for food preparation.
It is equipped with all the necessary equipment and tools for their activities.
It is very important that the conditions here comply with sanitary and hygienic standards, since the work concerns food products.
The cook monitors compliance with these standards, and he himself must strictly adhere to them.
Also ensures that the products are of high quality, fresh and unspoiled.
The cook keeps records of incoming and stored products, and in the latter case ensures their proper storage.
And during the process of preparing dishes, he is responsible for observing technologies and ensuring that the recipes used are followed.
In addition, the chef monitors the operation of the equipment, in particular, to ensure that it functions normally and without failures.
Peculiarities
Associated with qualifications, which imply several categories of cooks depending on the tasks they perform and the working conditions.
So, the chef is a top-class specialist who supervises other chefs. He is also responsible for the entire cooking process.
