From December 1, Lithuania will launch a procedure for mandatory pre-registration in an electronic queue for trucks leaving the country through the borders with the Russian Federation and Belarus.
This was reported in a statement by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Baltic Republic.
The agency says the purpose of the innovation is to regulate the queues of trucks at checkpoints and ensure public order there.
Therefore, “from December 1, preliminary registration in the electronic queue will be introduced for all freight vehicles leaving Lithuania through the external border of the European Union,” Belta quotes the statement as saying.
From December 1, all trucks leaving Lithuania through the Medininkai, Šalčininkai and Kybartai checkpoints will have to book a time slot for crossing the border in advance.
This can be done in the Queue Management Information System (EVIS).
If a truck arrives at the waiting area without a reservation, it will be able to register for the next available time slot in EVIS on site.
The ministry hopes that this measure will significantly reduce the queues of trucks at the Lithuanian borders.
