Belarus registers 171 cases of animal rabies in 8 months

Over the past 8 months, 171 cases of animal rabies have been registered in Belarus.

100 cases were registered among wild animals, 71 among farm and domestic animals.

This was reported by BELTA with reference to Irina Protas, consultant of the Department of Veterinary and Food Supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.

Animal rabies statistics in Belarus

As the specialist said at a press conference on the eve of World Rabies Day, the country regularly conducts research to identify animals with rabies.

In 2020, 752 cases of rabies were registered (440 among wild animals and 312 among domestic animals), in 2021 - almost half as many, 324 cases (205 among wild animals and 119 among domestic animals).

Positive dynamics continue from year to year: 261 cases were registered in 2022, 203 last year.

Over the first 8 months of this year, 171 cases were recorded (100 among wild animals and 71 among farm and domestic animals).

As a result of studying the epizootic situation by animal species, experts came to the conclusion that, according to statistics, the most frequent carrier of rabies in the wild is the red fox.
