Belarus has begun producing so-called “garbage fuel” (RDF fuel).
The Grodno waste processing plant has already received its first tons. They have successfully passed tests.
The first deputy head of the Ministry of Housing and Public Utilities, Andrei Beketa, reported this to the Belta agency.
According to him, a pilot project for burning RDF fuel at a cement plant has been implemented in the city of Volkovysk.
There, this type of fuel is used as a replacement for natural gas and coal, the specialist explained.
He added: this approach reduces the cost price while simultaneously increasing the “energy component.”
And the calorific value of such fuel is comparable to wood pellets, the First Deputy Minister pointed out.
Also, the Minsk waste processing plant will produce “garbage fuel”.
The national strategy provides for the energy use of solid municipal waste by creating RDF fuel from it, said Maxim Tarasov, head of the waste management regulation department of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
He also pointed out that much attention will be paid to composting solid municipal waste to obtain “some kind of soil” that can be used for landscaping.
For reference
RDF (residual fuel, or "garbage fuel") is a general name for fuel produced from waste.
