Russia was expecting a space visitor – according to scientists, an asteroid was supposed to arrive in Yakutia.
And finally they waited - this object arrived in the specified Russian region. Moreover, they managed to "catch" it on camera.
A little later, footage of an asteroid plowing through the dark Yakut sky began to spread at cosmic speed on social networks.
According to the agency MIA "Russia Today", which has reviewed the video footage, eyewitnesses can see "a glowing body crossing the sky and disappearing behind the trees."
Earlier, scientists stated that the asteroid (called COWEPC5) would pass through the sky over Yakutia on December 3 at 19:14 Belarusian time.
And so it happened – the extraterrestrial guest arrived exactly on schedule and, as already noted, became the main character in numerous photos and videos.
According to emergency services, a large asteroid burned up in the atmosphere.
Many local residents were able to observe a comet-like tail and flashes in the sky.
By the way, this asteroid was discovered on Tuesday morning by American specialists at the Kitt Peak Observatory (Arizona).
They discovered it thanks to a two-meter telescope – at that time the asteroid was located on the border of the constellations Aries and Taurus.
