New elective for schoolchildren approved in Belarus

The Ministry of Education of Belarus has approved the curriculum for the elective course “Introduction to the Profession of a Journalist”.

This is provided for by departmental resolution No. 129 of 10/22/2024.

The document comes into force on October 30, the National Legal Internet Portal reports .

What elective program for future journalists has been approved?

The elective program is intended for students in grades 8-9 and is aimed at introducing schoolchildren to journalism.

Students will gain an understanding of the basic skills, ethical and professional principles of a journalist's work, his or her behavior and appearance.

Students will also learn about the main genres of journalism, the work of the media editorial office, the specifics of presenting text and audiovisual information, the duties and rights of a journalist, etc.

In addition, schoolchildren will be introduced to the basic provisions of the Code of Professional Ethics of Journalists, laws on the media, advertising, copyright and related rights.

In addition, students will learn how to receive, select, critically analyze information, check the reliability of information and its sources, correctly and logically construct a journalistic text depending on its target audience and genre, and create publications for the media of their age group.
