The Ministry of Economy on the growth of the effectiveness of social support measures
As reported by the Ministry of Economy, every person who applies and has the right to receive it receives state social protection. Today, more than 170,000 people receive social services.
Social services to citizens/families in difficult life situations are provided by 146 territorial centers of social services for the population. There are also 92 boarding houses and two centers of social services for families and children.
Citizens have 100% access to medical services. In terms of availability of doctors and medical personnel, Belarus is ahead of many European countries.
In 1993, there were 42 medical specialists per 10,000 people in the country, last year – 61. On average, this figure in the European Union is 33, in the CIS – 38.
The number of mid-level medical personnel increased from 113 to 136 per 10,000 people, which is also higher than in the European Union (86) and the CIS (62).
High-tech medical care is actively developing. In terms of “basic medical care,” the country ranked 18th in the Social Progress Imperative’s social progress ranking last year.
The most important priority of state social policy is support for the institution of the family.
The system of state benefits covers every fifth child, and children under three years of age – almost 100%.
The Social Security Fund's expenditures on benefits for families with children last year amounted to 3 billion rubles (1.4% of the gross domestic product). This is one of the highest figures in the European space.
When a third or subsequent child is born, family capital is paid out; more than 140.5 thousand deposit accounts have been opened.
Families with children are provided with labor, tax, and pension guarantees. Last year, 6.6 thousand young and 6 thousand large families improved their housing conditions.
As a result, in recent years the number of large families has been steadily growing, there are already more than 123,000 of them.
