On October 23, the Gomel Regional Court announced the verdict for Ukrainian citizens Sergei and Pavel Kabarchuk, who attempted to import explosives into Belarus on orders from the SBU.
The defendants received 20 years in a maximum security penal colony and a fine of 700 base units each.

What were the Kabarchuks accused of?
Father and son Kabarchuki were detained during a KGB military operation in February of this year.
On the night of February 15, in the Lelchitsy district of the Gomel region, a violation of the border from the Ukrainian side by a group of citizens was recorded.
The sabotage and reconnaissance group included citizens of Ukraine, Belarus and their accomplices. Explosive devices and other weapons were found on the detainees.
Serhiy Kabarchuk is a resident of the Kovel district of the Volyn region of Ukraine, born in 1963, a former employee of the State Border Service of Ukraine.
After being dismissed from the State Border Service, he and his sons Pavel, born in 1993, and Bogdan, born in 1997, were involved in smuggling.
It was established that the explosive devices were intended to commit terrorist attacks in the Russian Federation and Belarus. The SBU organized the deployment of the sabotage and reconnaissance group. Its employees, together with the State Border Service of Ukraine, conducted preliminary reconnaissance of the area.
The explosive devices were handed over to the saboteurs immediately before crossing the border.
The Kabarchukovs were accused of illegal actions in relation to explosives, firearms and ammunition as part of an organized group, intelligence activities, preparation for a terrorist attack, etc. The detainees cooperated with the investigation.
Each of the defendants was sentenced to 20 years in a maximum security penal colony. They were also fined 700 BV. The sentence can be appealed.
