Since July 1, the rules for sick leave payments have changed in Belarus.
Deputy Head of the Social Security Fund Ekaterina Likhacheva explained how sick leave is now calculated for mothers after maternity leave and for young specialists.
How sick leave is calculated for young professionals and after maternity leave
As the deputy head of the Social Security Fund said in the “Actual Interview” on the “First Information” TV channel, if a young specialist falls ill soon after returning to work, his actual earnings are taken into account.
If the average daily earnings turn out to be very small, the minimum wage will be taken as a basis (previously it was 50% of the subsistence minimum budget).
For mothers who returned to work after maternity leave and went on sick leave after working less than a month, the situation is similar: the actual earnings or minimum wage are taken as a basis. Maternity leave is excluded from the calculation period.
Previously, in such a situation, the tariff salary was used to calculate the average daily earnings, which was significantly lower than the actual earnings.
In addition, the average daily earnings are now calculated not by the employer, but by the Social Security Fund.
When calculating the average daily earnings, income from all places of work (including former ones) in the calculation period is taken into account.
If a person has several jobs, they must obtain a sick leave certificate (for the main employer) and a certificate of incapacity for work (for other employers) from the healthcare institution.
In this case, sick leave is paid only if the employee is absent from all places of work.
If we check the personalized accounting documents and see that the employee went to work, then the benefit will not be paid, Likhacheva explained.
