She met her new acquaintance only once, but by a strange coincidence, she supported his ex-wife for a year and a half after the memorable meeting.
A 23-year-old girl from Baranovichi transferred money for the “treatment of her beloved” man for a year and a half, BELTA reports.
The victim met a man named Sergei in April of last year.
They communicated via messenger for some time, and soon a woman from Grodno contacted the girl.
The 33-year-old citizen introduced herself as Sergei’s sister and said that he had health problems, was hospitalized, and had also been fired from his job.
The caring sister resolutely blamed his new acquaintance for Sergei's loss of job and therefore began asking for money for treatment. This continued for a year and a half.
As a result, from April 2023 to August 2024, the citizen fraudulently received almost 36.5 thousand rubles.
Moreover, the girl never saw Sergei again after that meeting.
And when she realized that she had become a victim of scammers, she turned to the police for help.
It later turned out that the role of the false sister was played by the man's ex-wife.
As a result, a criminal case was opened against a citizen from Grodno. She is suspected of large-scale fraud, which carries a penalty of up to 7 years in prison.
