This Tuesday, September 17, Belarus celebrates National Unity Day.

This is a public holiday. The corresponding decree on it was signed by the President of the country on June 7, 2021.

As part of the National Unity Day, celebrations, patriotic and cultural and educational events, flash mobs, concerts, exhibitions, etc. are held throughout the country.

It should be noted that the holiday is timed to coincide with the anniversary of the beginning of the reunification of Western and Eastern Belarus.

We are talking about the events when the Red Army, having crossed the border with Poland, began what is known as a liberation campaign.

The result of this campaign was the reunification of the divided Belarusian people – Western Belarus became part of the BSSR.

Before this, the region was under the control of Poland – under the terms of the Treaty of Riga (1921), Warsaw received almost 100,000 square kilometers of territory with more than 3 million Belarusians living there.

Two years ago, on September 17, Alexander Lukashenko declared that the National Unity Day holiday was Minsk’s response to the West’s attempts to divide Belarus.
