Which social networks and messengers are the most popular in Belarus? Sociologist tells

According to the results of a social study conducted by the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, 22.2% of Belarusians do not use social networks.

The results of the study were announced at a press conference on September 11 by the head of the Center for Operational Research at the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences, Alexander Belsky.

According to the results of the social research, 33% of respondents use Instagram (banned in Russia, owned by Meta, a company recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation), 25.1% use YouTube, 24.8% use Odnoklassniki, 22.2% use VKontakte, 14.5% use TikTok, 6.2% use Facebook (banned in Russia, owned by Meta, a company recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation), 0.7% use Twitter, and 0.3% use Mail.ru.

22.2% of respondents do not use social networks. The telephone survey was conducted in the first quarter of this year with the participation of 900 respondents from all age groups.

Belsky noted that there is an interesting trend regarding social networks.

It is generally accepted that everyone is moving to TikTok. However, in Belarus, although it is among the top five most popular, it has never taken first place; Instagram is more popular.

The head of the center also noted that VKontakte is popular among young people, while Odnoklassniki is popular among older audiences.

As for messengers, 70.4% of respondents use Viber (traditionally the leader in research), 33.5% use Telegram.

27.7% use WhatsApp, 4.8% – Skype, 1.1% – Facebook Messenger. 12.4% do not use messengers.

Respondents also answered the question about which Internet sources they use most often.

35.1% use Internet portals and websites, 33.5% use social networks, 20.7% use instant messengers.
