In June and July, Belarus experienced an excess of precipitation, while in August there was a shortage.
At Vasilevichi station in August, the absolute minimum monthly precipitation was renewed – 5 millimeters.
This was reported by BELTA with reference to Tatyana Gil, a meteorologist engineer at the climate change study department of the meteorological and climate monitoring service, Belhydromet data fund.
How much precipitation fell in Belarus in the summer of 2024
On average, 233 millimeters of precipitation fell across the country (103% of the climatic norm).
Moisture conditions were uneven across the republic, with precipitation ranging from 75 to 120% of the norm.
In terms of regions, the most precipitation fell in the Vitebsk region (260 millimeters, 111% of the norm), the least in the Gomel region (198 millimeters, 88% of the norm).
In June and July there was an excess of precipitation, in August there was a shortage. In June, on average, 83 millimeters of precipitation fell across the country (116% of the norm), in July – 110 millimeters (123% of the norm), in August – 39 millimeters (62% of the norm).
The shortfall of precipitation in August was observed throughout the country, with the exception of individual observation points in the Minsk, Vitebsk and Grodno regions. From 40 to 80% of the norm fell.
