Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that we need to learn from the example of Belarusians how to value our past and protect peace.
The head of state made this statement at the event “Open Microphone with the President” at Vitebsk State University.
The presidential press service reported this.
What Lukashenko said about preserving historical memory
The event raised the issue of the importance of preserving historical memory and countering the revival of fascist ideology, how to prevent a repetition of tragic events and promote the unity of the peoples who suffered in the Great Patriotic War in order to preserve peace.
The President noted that the Belarusian people have already done so much that it seems that no more needs to be done.
We must learn from our example how to be committed to this, how to value all of this, the head of state said.
He recalled how in the mid-90s the country wanted to rename streets and demolish monuments, but he managed to stop these trends.
We need to learn how to value our past, ” Lukashenko added.
He stressed that it is important to come to the monuments and bring children to them.
As soon as we forget the way to the monuments, all this will happen again, the president warned.
