Since September 1, schoolchildren in Belarus have had access to free travel on public transport.
This is provided for by Government Resolution No. 630 of 08/27/2024.
The document was published on the National Legal Internet Portal.
How does free travel for schoolchildren work?
According to the resolution, those receiving general secondary and special education can use city electric and public transport of regular service and the metro free of charge from September 1 to June 30.
The right to free travel is realized on the basis of a student card and a certificate that the child is a student. The certificate must indicate the educational institution and place of residence (stay).
As specified by Minsktrans, a student can extend the validity of a contactless smart card with a recorded “concessionary” travel document for the next academic year.
It became possible to activate a smart card at bus stops using activation devices since August 28.
When you place the smart card on the device, a message appears on the screen stating that the bus-trolleybus-tram-metro fare, including express bus, has been recorded for a year from the selected date.
This means that the card's validity period has been extended from September 1 of this year to August 31 of next year.
