Some health restrictions prevent a person from obtaining a driver's license and getting behind the wheel.
However, this did not stop Metin Şentürk from Turkey. He became the first blind driver in the world to set a speed record.
Şentürk accelerated the Ferrari F430 racing car on the airport runway near Urfa.
Only after stopping did he learn that he had exceeded the previously set record by 9 kilometres, which belonged to a blind Briton.
When the driver got out of the car, he was told that the average speed was almost 293 km/h.
In his words, it was a “dance with death.” The fact is that Shenturk has been blind almost all his life – he lost his sight at the age of three.
But this did not stop him from becoming a successful person.
He has been involved in vocals all his life, gives concerts in Turkey, and now heads the World Disability Foundation.
He was alone in the car, but on the track he was accompanied by former racing driver Volkan Isik.
He corrected the blind racer's car by giving commands via radio.
It also emerged that Şentürk had entered into an agreement with bookmakers.
He donated all of his winnings to charitable foundations.
