Honeycutt's facial hair began appearing when she was just 13 years old.

The cause is polycystic ovary syndrome. This endocrine disorder leads to hormonal imbalance.

Patients with this diagnosis often have to deal with weight gain and excessive hair growth.

Before becoming a record holder, the woman shaved regularly – three times a day.

But after she decided to set this truly unusual record, she gave up the razor.

It was not the desire to become famous that prompted her to make this decision, but a tragedy that happened in her life.

Erin suffered a stroke that left her partially blind. It left her with an injured leg, and a bacterial infection forced doctors to amputate her limb.

So Honeycutt found it simply too difficult to shave, and she decided it would be a good idea to grow a beard.

According to the American, she is proud to be a "bearded lady".
