A new record for the number of hours a football match lasted was set at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

The achievement was made on Saturday, during the celebration of All-Russian Football Day.

It was then that the ultramarathon of the game, held in a seven-on-seven format, began.

It was not until 2pm on Sunday that it was finished, making the game last 26 hours.

This is two hours longer than the previous record, which, let us recall, was set in 2014 in Lukhovitsy near Moscow: then the game lasted 24 hours.

As a result of the match, the “red” team won over the “white” team with a score of 416:409.

This achievement will be included in the pages of the Russian Book of Records.

Particularly noteworthy is the former captain of the Russian national team, Alexei Smertin, who set a separate achievement.

He spent 26 hours on the pitch, taking eight-minute technical breaks every two hours, like the rest of the players.

The record would not have been counted if one of the players had not finished the match.
