A Japanese man has won his “place in the sun,” or rather, in the Guinness Book of Records, thanks to the unusual clover he grew in his garden.

What is unusual about this plant is that it has as many as 63 petals.

Of course, it took a lot of time to set such a record – to be precise, the man spent 12 years on it.

Growing clover became a passion for Yoshiharu Watanabe back in 2012.

As the record holder admits, he took on this task with only one goal – to break the world record for the number of petals on a plant.

To achieve this goal, Yoshiharu combined natural pollination of clover patches with hand pollination of patches with large leaf clusters.

As is well known, a four-leaf clover brings good luck – at least, that’s what many beliefs say.

Watanabe said he would be happy if his 63-leaf "green pet" became a source of surprise and joy for other people.
