People are accustomed to the idea that a record is something created by human hands.
But among human achievements there is room for natural phenomena – unique in their kind, like the rainbow in Yangmingshan National Park in Taipei.
Nature set a record by showing people a rainbow that delighted visitors to a park in Taipei for almost 9 hours.
The record was registered in November 2017. The rainbow was observed here for 8 hours and 58 minutes.
Before this moment, something similar was seen by the residents of Foggy Albion - 6 hours over Wetherby in March 1994.
The new record was officially confirmed and registered by the staff of the Chinese Culture University.
How is this possible?
A rainbow is caused by the refraction of sunlight in raindrops.
Its appearance depends on a number of conditions, including the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere, the direction of the sun's rays, and the position of the observer's eyes.
The duration of the phenomenon depends on even more important conditions.
But in Chinese Taipei, all the necessary conditions are formed by themselves at the end of November.
At this time, the north-east monsoon comes and brings water vapor from the sea to the mountains.
A large number of water drops and a light wind allow you to observe a rainbow for a long time.
At the same time, the weather in the south is still clear.
It is noteworthy that the rainbow could only be observed for 8 hours and 58 minutes at the site of the aforementioned university, which is located on the mountainside.
