Todd Sandstram made it into the Guinness Book of World Records after he built a pumpkin boat and set off on a journey in it.
The 42-year-old man admitted that he was prompted to take this extraordinary step by the desire to draw public attention to agriculture.
Having set his sights on a goal, the Briton began to act.
He found a huge pumpkin weighing more than 400 kg - the fruit was grown and given to Todd by a man from the city of Plymouth.
The record holder carved a boat (without a motor) out of a pumpkin, after which the 370 kg watercraft was launched into the water using a crane.
The enthusiast then sailed it for at least 5.6km (3.5 miles) along the River Taunton in southwest England.
This figure was enough to set a record.
After the achievement was recorded, Sandstram admitted in an interview that he was still confused by the pain he had to endure to set the record.
