Thus, a Girolando cow named Marilia was recognized as a record holder in February 2019.
On August 3 of that year, Marilia broke the world milk production record, producing 127,570 kilograms of milk in a day in three milkings during a milking tournament.
This result surpassed the previous record holder, a cow from Cuba, which produced 110.9 kilograms of milk per day in 1981.
According to Gustavo Souza, one of Marilia's owners, this was the first tournament she took part in.
A few more facts about the life of this remarkable cow: she was born on March 16, 2014, on the Girolando dairy farm in the state of São Paulo, owned by André Souza and Gustavo Souza.
The Girolando breed is the result of crossing the Dutch breed and the Zebu, long-horned animals with a pronounced hump on the back of the neck.
The Dutch breed is known for its milk production, and Zebu cattle have high fertility.
Marilia also shows good reproductive performance: she gave her owners eight strong and healthy heifers and a bull.
