Knysna HIV/AIDS campaigner Andre van Zijl has set a world record for the longest time spent in a hot tub.

The previous record holder managed to stay here for 10 days, while van Zijl managed to last two and a half days longer.

In total, he spent 306 hours here.

The tub was installed in a shopping mall in Johannesburg and the man was only allowed to leave the hot tub for one hour out of every 48 hours.

He had to eat and sleep right in the jacuzzi, and by the way, he had problems sleeping, since loud music was constantly playing in the shopping center from Thursday to Sunday, and the revelers kept interfering with Andre's dreams.

When his hot tub ordeal finally came to an end, an exhausted van Zijl declared that he was not 16 but 63 and needed to get some sleep.

Why did the man decide to do such a thing? The answer is simple – he was trying to raise money to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and to support orphans and disabled children.

The achievement also sparked a flood of donations of children's toys.
