Board games have been and remain one of the most popular forms of entertainment.
That's probably why some of them were invented before writing even existed. We'll tell you about three such games in this article.
Chaupar
The Indian game of chaupar, like the similar pachisi, became the predecessor of modern games of the cross and circle type.
In Western culture, the most well-known simplified version of this game is called "ludo". Its essence is to move the pieces along the edge of the board as quickly as possible and get into the "house".
Chaturanga
According to a number of researchers, chaturanga is the ancestor of chess.
The game with a board and pieces dates back to the 7th century AD, but what chaturanga looked like will most likely remain a mystery to us. However, one thing is certain: the game's spread around the world was facilitated by a pure battle of skill, almost endless complexity and beauty.
The Landlord's Game
The prototype of Monopoly was created in 1903 and its creator is Maryland actress Lizzie Meghie.
The Landlord's Game consisted of a square board - along the edges were the names of things that players could buy. The "board game" had 4 railroad cars, 2 factories and a prison, and players received $100 each time their token landed in a corner square.
