In 1963, 17-year-old American schoolboy Randy Gardner set an unusual record.

A young California resident went without sleep for more than 260 hours.

In other words, the guy hadn’t slept for more than 10 days.

Representatives of the Guinness Book of Records recorded this fact, but emphasized that they would ignore such experiments in the future.

The reason is simple: not sleeping for long periods of time poses a huge health risk.

What is known about the record set by Randy Gardner

The young man decided to set a record when he was studying at one of the schools in the American city of San Diego.

Gardner managed to go without sleep for 11 days and 25 minutes.

All this time, specialists monitored the health of the young American.

Ten days after giving up sleep, Gardner was playing pinball without any problems.

And immediately after the experiment was completed, the young man answered journalists’ questions without any problems.

And yet, during the study, numerous changes in the student's condition were recorded: he had problems with memory and even hallucinations. One day, the boy was unable to count to 100 normally.

The problems that have arisen indicate the danger of the experiment. Therefore, do not even try to repeat the record.

By the way, representatives of the Guinness Book of Records have long stated that they will no longer record achievements related to prolonged sleep deprivation.

It is possible that someone has managed to beat the record set by Randy Gardner. But it is not officially registered.
