The largest fruit salad was prepared in 2019 in Chessy, France.
The truly enormous dish was prepared by 700 volunteers, so it is not surprising that it was included in the Guinness Book of Records.
The cooks, armed with knives and scrapers, gathered in the Place du Cloatre, where a huge tent had been erected.
They divided into teams of 10 people and began to prepare the ingredients.
It was assumed that on average each participant would cut 10 kg of fruit per hour, and expectations were met: after just half an hour of work, the scales showed the first ton.
Apples, pears, strawberries, kiwis, grapes, watermelons, plums, oranges, grapefruits and bananas were used – a total of 12.5 tons. The fruits were donated by local businesses.
After 10 hours of joint efforts, the previous record was broken – the scales on which the fruit salad was weighed showed the coveted figure of 10 tons and 340 kg.
It was decided to sell the finished salad – the price for a 1 kg portion was set at 5 euros. The proceeds were donated to charity.
