According to meteorologists' calculations, the hottest day in history was Monday, July 3, 2023.
The average temperature on the planet on this day broke the record set seven years ago.
According to scientists from the US government agency National Centers for Environmental Prediction, the average global temperature on July 3 was 17.01 degrees Celsius.
The previous record, set in August 2016, was slightly lower and amounted to 16.92 degrees.
Strictly speaking, July 3 is the hottest day since satellite weather monitoring began in 1979.
However, according to scientists, this figure is worthy of being called a record for the entire history of regular scientific observations, which, mind you, have been conducted since the end of the 19th century.
Last year also set another temperature record: June 2023 was recognized as the warmest June on the planet in the entire history of observations.
Experts believe that these achievements were made possible by a combination of global climate change due to greenhouse gas emissions and the onset of the natural phenomenon El Niño.
