In October 2023, a Canadian resident set a new record for the fastest time eating the hottest pepper in the world.

His achievement was recorded by representatives of the Guinness Book of Records.

Mike Jack managed to eat 50 Carolina Reaper peppers in 6 minutes 49.2 seconds.

The Scoville scale rates these peppers at 1.64 million units of heat.

After setting the record, Jack decided not to stop and happily devoured another 85 pods, consuming a total of 135 Carolina Reapers in one sitting.

This willpower allowed Mike to take first place in eating speed.

He won silver for the number of peppers eaten. The top spot for this indicator goes to Australian athlete Gregory Barlow, who was able to eat 185 peppers in one sitting.

Jack says the first time he ingested pepper was extremely unpleasant. However, over the past 20 years he has become accustomed to spicy foods and has developed some tolerance to them, although he still finds many foods difficult to eat.

"I have severe cramps. It feels like someone is squeezing and twisting my intestines," the Canadian shared his impressions.
