The world's first parachute jump from the stratosphere has been made: the speed of the parachutist's fall has been named

The first jump from the stratosphere in the world and in the history of mankind was made by Russian pilots and an engineer.

Mikhail Kornienko, Alexander Lynnik and Denis Efremov landed at the North Pole after jumping from an Il-76MD aircraft.

The record was set with the support of Roscosmos on April 12, 2024, according to the Russian Book of Records.

The jump was performed by:

  • pilot-cosmonaut, Hero of Russia Mikhail Kornienko;
  • pilot instructor Alexander Lynnik;
  • founder of the aerospace laboratory "Stratonautika", space and stratospheric technology engineer Denis Efremov.

The world's first parachute jump from the stratosphere was recognized as a world record.

At the time of the jump, the founder and editor-in-chief of the Russian Book of Records, President of the World Records Club Stanislav Konenko was present on board the plane.

The jump was made from a height of 10,170 meters in the conditions of the North Pole.

It is specified that during the free fall, the parachutists reached a speed of almost 380 kilometers per hour. The fall itself lasted almost 2.5 minutes.

It took several months to prepare for the jump.
