A new Guinness World Record for the largest standing lantern has been set in one of China's cities.

The unique peony lamp reaches the height of an eight-story building and has more than 53 thousand internal light sources.

This peony-shaped lantern was created for the 2024 Spring Festival in the Year of the Dragon at the Peony Pavilion in Luoyang, China.

According to information from the Guinness Book of Records, the dimensions of this art object are impressive: its length is 45.03 meters, its width is 19.7 meters, and its height reaches 24.84 meters.

The weight of the structure is 45 tons, with an additional 40 tons of counterweight installed for stability.

This lantern required 200 artisans to create and is entirely handcrafted, from the three-dimensional wire frame to the placement of the light sources, the making of the coloured paste and the artistic painting.

When creating the lantern, the designer was inspired by the red Luoyang peony, which consists of 36 large petals arranged in 6 layers.

The petals decrease in size from the outer layer to the inner layer. To create a gradient effect on the silk, each petal was dyed in a special way.
