A mouse named Pat, named after British actor Patrick Stewart, has entered the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest mouse on the planet living in captivity.
At the time of the record she was 9 years and 209 days old.
Pat lives at the San Diego Zoo, located in the USA.
Here the mouse was born and raised, so its age is known down to the number of days.
Pat is a Pacific pocket mouse (Perognathus longimembris pacificus). They live exclusively in California. In captivity, these mice usually live no more than 7 years, and in the wild even less - about 3-5 years.
Pacific pygmy mice are one of the smallest species of mammals, their weight usually does not exceed 10 grams, and the body length (from the tip of the tail to the tip of the nose) is about 15 cm.
Previously, it was believed that the species was completely extinct, but some time ago scientists managed to discover several individuals.
Zoologists are now trying to increase their population and return them to their natural habitat.
