Everyone knows that there are four blood groups, one of which is considered the rarest.

There are groups A, B, O and AB. It is 4 (AB) that is considered the rarest. But what is its uniqueness related to?

What's special about Group IV?

On the surface of the erythrocytes of this group there are antigens A and B. In fact, this circumstance makes the composition of the blood unique.

All others have one of the antigens present or are absent altogether.

People with this blood type can receive blood from donors of all other blood types, but they can only donate to people with type 4.

What is the reason?

This blood type is recognized as the rarest in the world.

But the exception is some ethnic groups where this group is not uncommon, and among them are the peoples of Asia.

It has also been established that the composition of the group is related to genetic nature. Its prevalence is also related to heredity.

But the prevalence of blood group IV is mainly associated with gene mutations, during which antigens A and B are formed.
