Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko, who is aboard the International Space Station, has set a new world record for staying in orbit.
Before him, the absolute record holder was Gennady Padalka, who had five flights and 878 days spent in space.
Oleg Kononenko set a new world record for total time spent in orbit, the press service of the State Corporation Roscosmos reports.
As stated in the report, the previous record was broken on February 4 at 11:30 am and 08 sec Moscow time.
Before Oleg Kononenko, the championship belonged to Gennady Padalka, namely: 878 days, 11 hours, 29 minutes and 48 seconds spent in total in Earth orbit.
Oleg Kononenko, who is making his fifth space flight, is expected to accumulate a total of 1,000 days in space on June 5, 2024 at 00:00:20 Moscow time, Izvestia quotes Roscosmos as saying.
And upon completion of the expedition scheduled for September 23, Kononenko’s total stay in space will be 1,110 days.
