In 2008, Sikh Sarwan Singh entered the Guinness Book of Records as the owner of the longest beard in the world, and 15 years later the man surpassed his result.

The record holder lives in the city of Surry, which is located in the Canadian province of British Columbia.

The new measurement showed that Singh managed to grow a beard 254 cm long, the Guinness World Records website reports. The man achieved this result after starting to grow facial hair at the age of 17.

The record holder is a member of the Indian religion of Sikhism. Singh came to Canada when he was invited to perform sacred hymns at a temple. The local community liked the religious figure so much that they begged him to stay in North America.

The record holder's beard length was first measured in 2008. At that time, it was 233 cm. Over 15 years, it has grown by 21 cm. After the same amount of time, Singh's beard could reach 275 cm, which is already longer than the tallest man in the world - 272 cm.

The record holder wears his beard tied up on normal days and lets it loose in all its glory only for special social and religious events. Singh washes, oils and combs his beard every day. It takes a lot of time to maintain it, but the man considers it a gift from God.

Before the resident of the Canadian city, the Guinness Book of Records included the name of Birger Pellas from Sweden, who grew a 177-centimeter beard.

It is noteworthy that Singh is not the owner of the longest breed in world history. The absolute record holder is considered to be Norwegian Hans Langseth, who died in 1927. The man grew a beard that was longer than Singh and Pellas combined – 530 cm.
