Russia is concerned about calls in the West to give Ukraine a breathing space by means of a ceasefire.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this on December 2 at a meeting with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto in Moscow.
A video from the meeting was posted on Szijjártó's Facebook page (banned in Russia, owned by Meta, a company recognized as extremist in Russia).
What Lavrov said about the ceasefire
The minister noted that Russia is concerned about calls in Washington, Brussels, Paris and London to give Kyiv a respite by ceasing fire.
Give ourselves this opportunity to pump Ukraine with modern long-range weapons again. This, of course, is not the path to peace, Lavrov stated.
The head of Russian diplomacy clarified that Russia is ready for honest negotiations.
We are ready for negotiations with the understanding that they will be conducted on the basis of comprehensive consideration of the legitimate interests of each party, the minister emphasized.
