Deputy Head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sergei Ryabkov spoke about the potential consequences of transferring nuclear weapons to Ukraine.

According to him, if the West takes such a step, it could provoke an uncontrolled escalation of the conflict.

Not to mention that the entire system of non-proliferation and arms control, which, as the diplomat said, “still remains despite the destructive course of the United States,” will collapse.

This would be a major step towards a further and completely uncontrolled escalation of the conflict, MIA Rossiya Segodnya quotes Ryabkov as saying.

He added that statements about the transfer of nuclear weapons come from “irresponsible individuals in Kyiv.”

Earlier, The New York Times wrote that some American and European officials proposed returning nuclear weapons to Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the statements as "irresponsible."

For reference

Nuclear weapons are weapons of mass destruction, the action of which is based on the damaging factors of a nuclear or thermonuclear explosion.
