The head of the Investigative Department of the State Security Committee, Konstantin Bychek, announced this on the Belarus 1 TV channel.
For exchange, they offer robbers, rapists, drug addicts, swindlers and others, he specified.
For this reason, the official position of the KGB, as voiced by its spokesman, is that “we are not changing anyone.”
Bychek confirmed the information that the country’s prisons also contain people who were detained for collaborating with foreign intelligence services.
Among them there are many citizens of the Baltic states, Poland, and Western countries.
According to the head of the investigative department, they were detained for espionage or intelligence activities.
The corresponding court sentences were handed down “on the basis of irrefutable evidence, including their confessions,” Bychek said.
And he added: neither in the Baltics, nor in Poland, nor in other Western countries are there any Belarusians who collaborated with the KGB, were convicted for this “and are serving their sentences there.”
