Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered the West a high-tech duel with the new Russian missile system "Oreshnik".
The head of the Russian state made the corresponding statement on December 19 during a combined direct line and press conference.
Putin's words are quoted by the Kremlin press service .
How Putin Challenged the West to a Duel
The Russian President was asked to comment on statements made in the West that the Oreshnik is a modification of an old Soviet weapon and can be shot down by air defense systems even at the launch stage.
Putin responded that the Oreshnik is a modern and very new weapon based on Russian developments.
Everything that is done in any field of activity is based on some previous developments, noted the head of the Russian state.
The range of the Oreshnik, the Russian president continued, is up to 5.5 thousand kilometers, and the anti-missiles located in Poland will not reach it.
There is no chance of shooting down these missiles, Putin said.
He proposed to the West a “high-tech duel of the 21st century”: identify a target for destruction in Kyiv, concentrate air defense and missile defense forces there, and try to intercept the Oreshnik.
And we'll see what happens. We are ready for such an experiment, the Russian president emphasized.
He also answered the question of why "Nut" got its name.
Honestly? I don’t know, ” said the head of the Russian state.
