Russian President Vladimir Putin has considered the proposal of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban for a Christmas truce.
This was announced on December 12 by the head of the Hungarian Prime Minister's office, Gergely Gulyas.
His statement is quoted by TASS .
What Orban proposed to Putin regarding a ceasefire
Answering journalists' questions about the telephone conversation between Orban and Putin the day before, Gulyas said that the Hungarian prime minister proposed a Christmas truce and an exchange of prisoners.
Putin did not accept or reject this proposal, he only considered it, said the head of Orban’s office.
After the Hungarian Prime Minister's call to the Russian President, Budapest approached Ukraine with this proposal through diplomatic channels, but the country's President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected it.
Our goal was to ensure that Christmas was not marred by armed conflict, ” Guiyas said.
As Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov reported, Russia immediately responded to the Hungarian prime minister's initiative by handing over a list of prisoners for exchange to the Hungarian embassy in the Russian Federation.
Judging by Zelensky’s reaction on social networks, as well as his entourage, the Ukrainian side has rejected all of Orban’s proposals, the Kremlin representative noted.
He noted that Moscow has never refused to negotiate and has repeatedly expressed its readiness to resume them on the basis of the Istanbul agreements.
According to Peskov, Russia assumes that consultations on establishing peace will continue and fully supports the peace efforts of the head of the Hungarian government.
