What Putin and Orban discussed
The Russian President and the Hungarian Prime Minister discussed trade and economic cooperation, in particular, the further promotion of mutually beneficial projects in the energy sector, and also exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine.
The head of the Hungarian government declared his readiness to assist in the joint search for ways to resolve the conflict politically and diplomatically, including taking into account his contacts with a number of Western leaders.
The Russian President outlined his fundamental assessments of the current development of the situation and Kyiv’s destructive line, which continues to exclude the possibility of a peaceful settlement.
Putin and Orban also discussed the situation in the Middle East in the context of events in Syria.
After calling the Russian president, the Hungarian Prime Minister wrote on the social network Facebook (banned in Russia, owned by the Meta company, which is recognized as extremist in Russia) that the conversation with Putin took place during the most dangerous period of the Ukrainian conflict.
The day before, Orban met with US President-elect Donald Trump at his Florida estate Mar-a-Lago. The talks lasted three hours.
The meeting also included Trump's future national security adviser Mike Waltz and American billionaire Elon Musk, who may join the new administration.
Following the meeting, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjrtó reported that Orban discussed the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine with Trump.
