New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters announced a new package of sanctions against Russia and Belarus.
The corresponding information appeared on the official website of the foreign policy department of the Polynesian state.
According to the minister, the country has launched the "latest round of sanctions."
It "targets participants in Russia's illegal occupation of Ukraine's Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant and the Russian military-industrial complex."
It also targets Belarusian individuals and organizations that Wellington believes support the "invasion."
The ongoing illegal occupation of the Zaporizhzhya NPP in Ukraine by the Russian Federation threatens nuclear security, the diplomatwas quoted as saying by the MIA Rossiya Segodnya.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reported that his country once again calls on Moscow to “stop the occupation of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant and immediately leave the territory of Ukraine.”
Peters explained why sanctions are being introduced against some Belarusian entities.
According to him, New Zealand developed them together with international like-minded partners to “hold accountable” those who support Russia’s actions.
These new sanctions are directed against five individuals and six organizations, the ministry clarified.
At the same time, New Zealand’s official “black list” of sanctioned individuals and companies has not yet been updated.
