Alexander Lukashenko states: electoral campaigns have long ceased to be a technical procedure.
According to him, today the elections have turned into a battlefield.
The President of Belarus announced this at a meeting with the heads of the Central Election Commissions of the CIS countries, the press service of the head of state reports .
Field of combat operations
Following the democratic path, we created our electoral commissions, a vertical line – from the central to the relevant districts, constituencies, and so on, – said the Belarusian leader.
In his opinion, the decision taken at the time to create electoral commissions was fully justified, “we were not mistaken.”
However, he added, at that time the CIS could not even imagine that the activities of the Central Election Commission would become a field for military operations.
You often fight, thank God, not everywhere alone, but nevertheless you have enough, the President noted.
And he added: today in the Commonwealth countries increased attention is paid to holding elections and referendums.
Electoral campaigns have long ceased to be a technical procedure, he pointed out.
This is already a battlefield in the pre-election and election periods, where the main actors are the bodies of the Central Electoral Commission and the electoral commission in general, Lukashenko emphasized.
Guarantee of stability, peace and order
According to him, elections are now one of the main political events in almost any country.
However, in the opinion of the head of state, elections should be an ordinary political process that should not be given excessive importance.
He is convinced that high-quality organization of elections, honesty and transparency are a guarantee of maintaining political stability, peace and order in society.
During this period, every word from your lips is taken very seriously, and our people have become accustomed to believing what the Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission and the structures subordinate to him say, the President said.
He recalled that he had previously initiated the development of general principles for the activities of the Central Election Commissions of the CIS countries on several occasions.
It was also proposed to jointly develop laws and regulations, to develop practices “so that we do not have major differences,” said the President of Belarus.
