During a working visit to Oman, Alexander Lukashenko held talks with the local Sultan Haitham bin Tarek Al Said.
The leaders of the two countries exchanged gifts during the event.
The President of Belarus presented the Sultan with a Slutsk belt and a Shpagin submachine gun.
The press service of the head of the Belarusian state reported this, noting that earlier, on Lukashenko’s instructions, the production of unique Slutsk belts was revived in the republic.
This is our sacred place. Very rich people would gird themselves with this belt. The richer the person, the more expensive the belt, - said the high-ranking guest of Oman.
He also informed his interlocutor about what the legendary Shpagin submachine gun was.
These weapons, as the press service notes, played a role in the liberation of Belarus from the fascist occupiers.
The PPSh was the main weapon of the infantry; soldiers and partisans called it “Papasha”.
These are weapons from the Great Patriotic War, the middle of the last century. Our soldiers fought the fascists, Lukashenko noted.
Along with the machine gun, the Belarusian leader handed over to the Sultan an official document for the PPSh.
The latter presented the guest with a traditional Omani dagger, the Khanjar, the national symbol of the country.
We would like to present it to you as a memory of Oman,” Al Said said.
In return, Lukashenko presented the Sultan with a coin – this is customary when accepting a bladed weapon as a gift.
