Belarus advocates for “ensuring the inalienable legal rights of Palestinians to independence.”
Minsk’s position is based on UN decisions to create two states for the two peoples of the region.
The President of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, was informed of this by his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko.
The statement was made public as part of Abbas's congratulations on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, the Belarusian leader's press service reported .
Lukashenko expressed confidence that a reduction in tensions in the Middle East and the achievement of peace will contribute to the stabilization of the situation in Palestine itself, followed by its economic development.
According to the President of Belarus, Minsk takes a position of ensuring the legitimate rights of Palestinians to independence, based on the UN decisions on the creation of two states for two peoples.
The author of the message drew special attention to the similarity of the approaches of Belarus and Palestine to international relations.
These approaches, the congratulations say, are based on the principles of sovereign equality of countries and mutual respect, taking into account the interests of all parties.
Lukashenko expressed his intention to expand dialogue with Palestine in order to begin realizing the “significant potential for cooperation” in many areas.
He wished Mahmoud Abbas health and successful implementation of all plans, and the Palestinians prosperity and a peaceful future.
