As Hebestreit reported, the German Chancellor called on the Russian President to end the conflict and withdraw troops.
According to a representative of the German government, Scholz stressed that Germany will support Ukraine as long as necessary.
The Chancellor insisted on Russia's readiness to negotiate with Ukraine with the aim of achieving a fair and long-term peace, the official said.
He also reported that before talking with the Russian president, the head of the German government called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
And he will do this after a conversation with the Russian president, Hebestreit clarified.
According to the German news agency DPA, the conversation lasted an hour.
The German publication Süddeutsche Zeitung writes that the conversation was preceded by lengthy preparation.
The previous conversation between the head of the German government and the President of Russia took place in December 2022.
The last face-to-face meeting between Scholz and Putin took place on February 15, 2022 in Moscow.
At the beginning of the week, the German Chancellor said in an interview with the German television channel ARD that the right time would soon come for a conversation with the Russian President.
The press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia had not received any signals from Germany about preparing for the conversation.
