The Russian Federal Security Service has accused an employee of the British Embassy of espionage.
The diplomat has been stripped of his accreditation and must leave the Russian Federation within two weeks.
The FSB press service reported this, as reported by TUT NOVOSTI .
Why Russia is expelling a British diplomat
The FSB reported that an undeclared British intelligence presence under the cover of the embassy was discovered.
It was established that the second secretary of the embassy's political department, Wilkes Edward Prior, who replaced one of the British intelligence officers expelled in August as a cover, intentionally provided false information when receiving permission to enter the Russian Federation, thereby violating Russian law.
At the same time, the FSB revealed signs that the diplomat was conducting intelligence and subversive work that threatened Russia’s security.
On this basis, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with interested departments, decided to deprive the diplomat of accreditation. He must leave the country within two weeks.
