On December 16, the Council of the European Union, at the level of heads of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the countries that are part of the Commonwealth, finally approved the 15th package of sanctions against Russia.
It includes new economic and personal restrictions.
In particular, the restrictions affected Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet” transporting energy resources.
Sanctions have also been imposed on 54 individuals and 30 organizations, reports MIA Rossiya Segodnya.
The EU Council statement said the sanctions target military personnel, energy company managers, defence and shipping organisations.
Economic taboos are also imposed on the “chemical plant and the Russian civil airline.”
In addition, "two high-ranking officials" from North Korea were subject to European sanctions.
According to the statement, for the first time, full sanctions have been imposed on a number of Chinese entities for cooperation with Russia.
These include measures such as asset freezes and travel bans.
And as part of the fight against the Russian “shadow fleet,” sanctions will apply to another 52 naval vessels (bringing the total number to 79).
