Abkhazian President Bzhania Refuses to Resign Amid Unrest

Aslan Bzhania, who holds the post of President of Abkhazia, refused to resign.

The politician stated this during an address to his supporters.

Bzhania stressed that he will remain in the republic and continue to work.

The politician added: representatives of the republic’s highest executive authority also remain in Abkhazia.

Bzhania also appealed to his supporters with a request not to succumb to provocations.

In addition, the President of Abkhazia stated that measures will be taken to eliminate the consequences of the current situation in the republic.

The situation in Abkhazia

Let us recall that riots recently began in the center of Sukhumi.

They covered a complex of buildings belonging to the government of Abkhazia.

The reason for the unrest was plans to ratify an agreement with the Russian Federation on the implementation of investment projects in the republic by legal entities from Russia.

The opposition demanded the resignation of the President of Abkhazia.

Several people are known to have been injured during the riots.

Moscow has commented on the situation in Abkhazia. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated: Russia is not interfering in what is happening and expects a peaceful resolution of the situation.
