The Central Electoral Commission of Belarus refused to register citizens' initiative groups to nominate Yuri Gubarevich and Alexander Drozdov as presidential candidates.
The Central Election Commission made this decision at a meeting on October 29, as reported on the commission’s Telegram channel.
Why were Gubarevich and Drozdov's initiative groups not registered?
As reported by the Central Election Commission, Gubarevich's initiative group was not registered due to the fact that the documents were sent by e-mail. This is not provided for by the electoral legislation.
Drozdov's initiative group was refused because a list of group members was not provided.
It is noted that Gubarevich and Drozdov did not appear at the CEC meeting.
We can talk about the frivolity of these citizens’ intentions, BELTA quotes the comment of the Secretary of the Central Election Commission Elena Baldovskaya.
In accordance with the Electoral Code, the Central Election Commission reminded, documents for registering an initiative group are submitted by the person planning to run as a presidential candidate, or his representative on the basis of a power of attorney.
Submission of documents by e-mail is not provided. Documents are accepted until November 1.
